I began oil painting at the age of seven with private art instruction while growing up in Los Angeles. The weekly lessons continued into high school. In college I majored in painting, printmaking and graphic design and received a BA in Art from Chico State University. My influental instructors include Janet Turner, Marion Epting and Paul Feldhaus, with whom I worked to obtain a degree in printmaking.
After graduating college I began a career in graphic design in Southern California. My passion for painting was rekindled upon returning to Chico eleven years ago. Painting in an expressionistic yet representational style, I work primarily in oils, pastel, and acrylic. Mostly I create “en plein air,” which means on location, outdoors. The Chico area has an endless supply of interesting outlooks to capture, both in architecture and nature. “As I paint “en plein air” I strive to relay to the viewer a sense of the elements that I see and feel at the moment. Capturing the light, as it presents itself to me outdoors, is an important part of my art.”
