This is the road to Leadfield, California at the north end of Death Valley. Leadfield's claim to fame was lead mining that got started in the early 1900s, went bust and then a shady promoter named C.C. Julian showed up in the mid-20s. He bought out an existing mining company, was later accused of selling stock without a permit and then everything went bust again. By the late `20s the community was history as this series of 1931 photos shows.
