A Worthy Read

The world is full of inkjet printers, from small desktop versions to enormous 60" and wider versions. They all use ink mostly from cartridges that are not refillable. The majority of these refillable cartridges end up in landfills adding their polluting materials to the earth. Not a good scene by any measure. To learn more about the downside of these cartridges, here is an ARTICLE written by Jon Cone of InkJetMall. It is a worthy read. Also keep in mind that office supply retailers such as Office Depot and Staples will take cartridges for recycling, maybe others, too.

What's New

www.charlie-osborn.artistwebsites.comFor some time I've maintained a gallery of my photography on Fine Art America. FAA is now about the largest online art marketplace where you can buy and sell fine art and photography prints. Much, but not all, of my work on this site is also on FAA. This link, www.charlie-osborn.artistwebsites.com, will take you there (opens in a separate window). On that site you can view my work, purchase prints on paper or canvas as straight prints or matted and framed. Canvas prints can be gallery wrapped or stretched and framed. Prices are reasonable and the quality is good, so give it a look. Prints from FAA are either unsigned, open edition or digitally signed open edition. If you prefer prints signed directly by me, you can contact me by email.

The images below are newly added to my FAA gallery in both the Hawaii gallery and the new Floral Beauty gallery. Click the images to go and check them out.

Charlie Osborn FAA Gallery Link

Currently this site offers purchase info but ordering is via email requests. All photos link to purchase information that gives pricing and contact instructions. I encourage you to communicate directly with me to discuss your interests. It's more fun that way and it's a good opportunity to ask questions about the photos themselves or about varying finishing possibilities. I do all my own printing on paper and canvas in my studio (that is my business, see the dStudio link to the right) and can help you decide on finishing work you can do yourself or have done by your favorite frame shop. In some cases I can provide finished work to you.

The next phase of site development here will install direct ordering of prints in the Walker and Vintage Hawai'i galleries. In the meantime, you can email requests.

So feel free to email, or if you prefer you can call me at (530) 345-2101 between 9 am and 6 pm Pacific Time.

Tidbits
We all have some friend who insists on including us in an email distribution of the "funny stuff" gleaned from the internet. Usually we just hit Delete and move on. Once in a while one of these gems catches our eye and turns out to really be something interesting or very funny. I received one of these the other day and thought I would share it here since it involved photography. There always is a photographer out there willing to push the limits, but some just go too far. This picture sequence speaks for itself on the issue of being too crazy for one's own good! Click the picture sequence above for a large view.

About The Galleries

There are three main galleries of photographs on this site representing a span of time covering 100 years or more. Taken at face value, they would appear to the casual observer to be rather random and disconnected, however they are not. The connection to the first gallery, my photographs, is rather obvious. The Walker and Vintage Hawai 'i galleries connect via family ties of the past. The profile pages for each explains the connection, which, interestingly, is common to both. You can read the Walker Profile HERE and the Vintage Hawai 'i profile HERE. Below are one each of my favorite photos from four of the galleries that should give you a good feel for the flavor of what is there. Clicking each image will take you to the respective gallery.

The Local Visual Arts Scene

ARTabout in Chico, CA ARTabout Chico! The next installment of the 2nd Friday ARTabout Chico is happening on Friday, October 14th and will be in the UPTOWN neighborhood. This ChiVAA event is a team effort with the Enterprise-Record’s Buzz magazine. This monthly art event rotates between three Chico neighborhoods—Uptown, Downtown, and South of the Post Office (SOPO). From 4–8 pm each 2nd Friday, artists will cluster around galleries, restaurants, and studios to welcome the public to a free evening of creative experiences. Don't miss it!

Chico Visual Arts AllianceOver the past year a new force has emerged in the Visual Arts scene in the form of Chico Visual Arts Alliance. The organization's purpose, as stated on it's website, is:

"ChiVAA exists for the purpose of fostering an environment in which artists and visual arts stakeholders may flourish in order to enhance the cultural and economic well-being of the larger community. ChiVAA is an umbrella organization that links arts organizations and individual artists, enabling them to have a united voice and presence in Chico."

Be sure to pick up a ChiVAA Art Map and start visiting the many fine artists, art galleries and visual arts supporting businesses listed therein. Here is a link to the ChiVAA website where you can learn more about the organization.

As things get rolling along here I will report on other visual arts activities as they occur with an emphasis on Chico, and include the surrounding area for significant activities, especially as it relates to photography.
